Katie Staal


image1 (2)Katie graduated from an M.A. in English Literature in 2015 – she specialised in Feminist Literature and focused specifically on investigating forgotten/lost poetry from the Eighteenth Century. Her dissertation on women, work and rebellion earnt her a prize from Blackwell’s Bookshop, and she was awarded a first class honours.

Her particular areas of interest include sexuality, Marxist-feminism, identity politics, psychology, reproductive and sexual rights, popular culture, everyday sexism and the representation of women in the creative industries.

Katie was appointed Editor-in-Chief of Gender + the City in June 2017. In this position, she is responsible for the publications and policies of the website, the acceptance of articles and the initial quality checking and scheduling of new submissions. She also acts as social media manager for the site, and runs the GATC Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr pages.

Katie works in London for an academic publisher, supporting a list of humanities and social sciences journals, including the Feminist Review.

Along with her passion for writing and curating editorial content, Katie is also a poet, guitarist, veggie (with vegan tendencies) and avid record collector.
